Saddlebrook Tennis Resort
The illustrious Harry Hopman sold the Tampa Tennis Academy in 1986. Thanks to his fitness-centered philosophy, he was one of the most accomplished tennis instructors in history. His philosophy served as the cornerstone of the Saddlebrook Program.
Tennis Instructor Hopman was born in 1906. He became part of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1978. He is the most prolific Davis Cup captain in history, having guided his home Australia to Sixteen World Championships for 28 years.
Australia's greatest tennis players include Frank Sedgman, Lew Hoad, Ken Rosewall, and others. They got inspiration and motivation from his emphasis on super fitness. In the US, he became a teaching professional at the Port Washington Tennis Academy in New York.
With Jack Crawford, he captured the Australian Men's Doubles in 1929 and 1930. Also, four victories in mixed doubles followed suit. With his wife Lucy, he founded the first Hopman Tennis Academy in Largo, Florida. And he remained a resident until his passing in 1985. In 1986, Saddlebrook in Wesley Chapel purchased the tennis program.
Tennis programs are available for athletes of all ages and skill levels through the Hopman Tennis Program at Saddlebrook. The world-famous tennis complex in Tampa draws fans from around the world and has 45 courts, along with all four Grand Slam surfaces.
While offering business conference participants the chance to squeeze in a quick lesson or a few sets of competitive play, Saddlebrook Tennis can accommodate the genuine tennis enthusiasts who opt to engage in our tough five-hour per day program, provided 365 days a year.
The opening of Saddlebrook Resort in 1981 led to winning honors. Condominiums, a halo of golf fields, and residential neighborhoods surround the hotel, shopping, dining, tennis courts, and conference spaces on the 480-acre layout. It is 25 miles north of Tampa.
Birds are numerous and prolific on the property, with lush foliage, ponds, lakes, and rookeries for several threatened species.
Hopman's strenuous training program was to refine technique and test the limits of his charge's stamina and endurance. Aspiring juniors and devoted adults are drawn to Saddlebrook's program by its image of toughness, which combines demanding training with all the resort facilities.
Although there are few exceptions, you usually work with the same professional the whole time so they can monitor your development personally. They adjust the tasks to your ability. You must race for every ball instead of standing there and hitting picture-perfect strokes.
You'll engage in many two-on-one exercises, competitive games, and live-ball drills, with the other campers on your court, just like the pros. The process can be disheartening, exciting, or both.
